The Morning Briefing: Mixed Bag and the Media Is Still Lying to You Thursday

POLITICS & POLICY

RIP Journalistic Accountability

Just a few things today, and I promise I’ll have you out of here in no time.

It is a safe bet that anyone who is a regular reader of the Morning Briefing is no big fan of the mainstream media. My purpose here this morning is not to convince anyone of the MSM’s awfulness, but to vent to some like-minded people in order to avoid getting severely concussed from banging my head against the wall.

I thank you all in advance for the service you’re providing.

The past couple of days have provided new opportunities for members of the American news media to remind discerning, honest Americans why we despise them. We’ll hit a couple of them here, scream at the sky, then head for the liquor cabinet.

Here’s a little something to get us going:

The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway spent a good chunk of Wednesday on Twitter highlighting much of the media awfulness that was laid bare by the conclusions of Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report.

Here are a couple of samples:

and:

There were examples like this flying all over social media, but you would never know that by perusing the quite active social media feeds of most of the media members being shamed by their past statements. They’ve all gone full “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” on the issue.

One member of the Leftmedia isn’t falling in line with the deniers. The media malfeasance during all things Trump and Russia has been so egregious that Rolling Stone’s Matt Taibbi snapped and called them out:

No matter what people think the political meaning of the Horowitz report might be, reporters who read it will know: Anybody who touched this nonsense in print should be embarrassed.

One honest guy in that degenerate media class doesn’t give me much hope, but I’m willing to take my glimmers of hope where I can get them.

It’s less tiresome than constantly wishing the rest of them would decide en masse to have a career change.

A Bit of Housekeeping

I’m going to be posting links here to some of the VIP content from now on. Some of the readers are VIP members and, who knows, people may become intrigued and want to check it out. I know there were some protests about the firewall content when it was first launched but I do have a child in college and there are bills to pay.

There were some comments yesterday from people who were oh-so-eager to let me know that they didn’t think any of the “intellectual betters” I mentioned in the headline weren’t intellectual and/or their betters.

I realize that we are in an age where the fashion is to skip explanations and nuance in order to head directly to outrage, but that gets old in a hurry. It didn’t take more than 25 seconds of reading to understand that I was saying that these people are telling us that they are our intellectual betters.

Those of you who are used to me are aware that mine is a flippant and sarcastic style, and that’s often reflected in my headlines. We don’t do stodgy here.

Also, anyone who has read more than a thousand words of mine probably understands just how preposterous it is to think that I would actually believe anyone to be smarter or better than I am.

Going forward, I shan’t be as patient with people whose comments make it obvious that they’ve only read the headline.

In the immortal words of The Mandalorian’s Kuiil: I have spoken.
