Police say a 13-year-old boy stabbed a convenience store clerk on Friday after being told to wear mask in Canada.

The unsettling incident unfolded in Winnipeg, Manitoba, when the maskless boy entered the store on Isabel street, according to a Facebook post from the Winnipeg Police Service.

Police say the boy became angry when the clerk told him to wear a mask. He allegedly stabbed the clerk after buying several items.

The 41-year-old clerk was taken to a hospital in serious condition, but later improved to stable condition.

Police say the incident was unprovoked.

The teen was later arrested at his residence. Police say the boy faces one charge of assault with a weapon and one charge of aggravated assault.

This is far from the only incident where a mask dispute ended in violence. Only two days into the mandatory mask mandate in Michigan, one man was killed by police after he stabbed another man for demanding he wear a mask at the Quality Dairy store outside of Lansing. Michigan State Police later released video showing the man charging a female deputy before she fired at him and killed him.

In another incident in July 2020, a man violently punched an elderly disabled veteran after the 72-year-old asked the man’s girlfriend to wear a mask at a Red Lion Inn and Suites in Washington state. That altercation was also caught on video. Police later arrested a suspect at his home after an anonymous tip and charged the man with second-degree assault.
