The Nation of Islam said that accused Capitol Police killer Noah Green was a “brother with such great potential,” according to the Washington Free Beacon.
Police identified Green as responsible for having crashed his vehicle into two Capitol Police officers, killing one of them. Green was also killed during the attack, having been shot by police after he lunged at the second officer with a knife.
Shortly after the attack, authorities identified Green as a man from Indiana who had recently lost his job. On social media, Green identified himself as a follower of Louis Farrakhan as well as an adherent to the Nation of Islam.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that the Nation of Islam said it is “investigating” what caused Green — who they said was a “brother with such great potential” — to stage the assault on the Capitol Police officers.
The group distanced itself from Green, who the group said could have been a “star in the mission of the resurrection of our people,” and his heinous act, and condemned his actions.
In a statement, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan added, ‘I am sure, had [Green] been blessed to come through the crisis that he was going through, he would have been a star in the mission of the resurrection of our people. We need to know what happened to our brother.”
The group added that it was looking into what could have caused Green to snap, including “mental illness, depression, Green’s own claims that his food was being poisoned, and that he was under ‘mind control.'”
According to the outlet, the Nation of Islam also described the attacker as a man who had “struggled in his early life but overcame much as a student to graduate with a degree in finance.”
The 25-year-old Green, the group said, “had a wonderful, noble idea to help the black and brown people through his knowledge of finance.”
The organization added that they continue to work to determine “what caused [Green] to take a turn like this.”
“We are saddened by the loss of this brother with such great potential,” the statement added.

Before Facebook pulled down Green’s social media profile, CNN documented several concerning social media posts in which Green said he was the victim of “mind control” operations.
“The U.S. Government is the #1 enemy of black people!” read a title from one of his Instagram posts, according to the outlet.
He also previously accused people of breaking into his home, poisoning his food, assaulting him, and more.
“I have suffered multiple home break ins, food poisonings, assaults, unauthorized operations in the hospital, mind control,” he wrote in a comment.
Another post identified Farrakhan as Jesus Christ himself.
“My faith is one of the only things that has been able to carry me through these times and my faith is centered on the belief of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as Jesus, the Messiah, the final divine reminder in our midst,” Green wrote on the now-defunct page. “I consider him my spiritual father. Without his guidance, his word, and his teachings that I’ve picked up on along the way, I would’ve been unable to continue.”
