President Joe Biden’s administration reportedly anticipates that it will be releasing hundreds of migrant families into the United States per day within the next two months, a monumental increase compared to early 2021.

A government planning document, which was obtained by the Washington Examiner, projects that immigration authorities will be releasing 400 migrant families per day by mid-June.
The projection is an eight-fold increase compared to early 2021.
Under the Immigration and Customs Enforcement program known as “alternatives to detention,” migrants are released from government custody and monitored by immigration authorities prior to immigration courts settling their immigration cases.
“The number of individuals enrolled in the ICE Alternatives to Detention program has increased from 50 per day to 200 per day in March 2021,” the ICE document states, the Examiner reported. “Within 90 days, the enrollment is projected to double to 400 per day.”
“It is because of this unusual and compelling urgency that the Government requires the [emergency family reception sites] to meet the critical mission requirements of housing, feeding, transporting, and providing medical attention to these thousands of asylum-seeking families along the southwest border,” the document explained.

The news comes as Biden grapples with a migrant crisis at the southern U.S. border, a growing problem top administration officials have hardly acknowledged. Such refusals have been unpopular with Americans, polling data shows.
In fact, government data revealed that 172,000 migrants attempted to cross into the U.S. in March alone, up from about 100,000 in February, and nearly 100,000 more than in January, the month Biden became president. Those numbers include tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors.
The migrant spike is, of course, straining U.S. immigration resources.
According to the document obtained by the Washington Examiner, government officials expect migrant encounters in fiscal year 2021 to be “the highest number observed in over 20 years.”
“DHS is seeing an increase in irregular migrant flows to the southwest border of the United States, including greater numbers of family units and unaccompanied children,” the document says, the Examiner reported. “The projected encounters for fiscal year (FY) 2021 are expected to be the highest number observed in over 20 years.”
While the Biden administration deflects criticism over the border crisis, Republicans, and even many Democrats, are attributing the growing problems to Biden’s immigration initiatives, which, thus far, have reversed many of former President Donald Trump’s deterrent policies.
Even Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador agrees with Biden’s critics.
“Expectations were created that with the government of President Biden, there would be a better treatment of migrants. And this has caused Central American migrants, and also from our country, wanting to cross the border thinking that it is easier to do so,” López Obrador said in March.
