Nets Look Away as Durham Charges Source of Debunked Steele Dossier

News & Politics

On Thursday, Special Prosecutor John Durham dragged a Russian national, who was the primary source in the infamous and debunked dossier that kicked off the Russian collusion hoax, into court Thursday on charges of lying to the FBI with his information. And as would be expected, the liberal broadcast networks had no interest in sharing this massive development in the false story they tried to sink the Trump presidency with for four years.

As NewsBusters previously reported regarding the network coverage from that night, instead of covering important news like this latest development in the Durham probe, ABC’S World News Tonight, CBS Evening News, and NBC Nightly News gawked at a coming cold snap. They also implied that the 11 white jurors in the Ahmaud Arbery trial were racist as they hinted his family would not find justice with only one black juror.

They also ignored the Biden administration admitting they were going to dole out a massive payday to illegal immigrants who had their families separated at the border.

Meanwhile, it was Fox News Channel’s Special Report that shared the news the American people needed to know about. “A Russian analyst who helped provide information for the now-infamous dossier that fueled the Trump-Russia investigation has been arrested,” announced anchor Bret Baier. “It is a crucial part of the ongoing probe we’ve been telling you about since the beginning by Special Prosecutor John Durham.”

“His name is Igor Danchenko and he is charged with five counts of lying to the FBI. He was arrested this morning. He was in custody earlier today. We have some fresh video within the last hour and a half of him leaving court in the Eastern District of Alexandria,” reported correspondent David Spunt.

He wasn’t the first Fox News reporter to be on the Durham beat. That reporter was Catherine Herridge before she moved over to CBS News. And unfortunately, her reporting on the topic was relegated to Twitter but not the network’s flagship newscasts.

“39-page indictment Igor Danchenko stands out because it makes the linkage between Clinton campaign/lawyer, opposition research known as ‘Steele Dossier’ used by FBI to obtain surveillance warrants for Trump campaign aide [Carter Page] + then Special Counsel Mueller probe,” she wrote in one tweet.

That meshed with Spunt’s reporting where he explained to viewers how “The indictment also mentions Danchenko’s involvement with someone identified as PR Executive One, someone believed to be close to the Hillary Clinton operation.”

In another tweet, she reported that Danchenko was released “on a $100,000 bond. He will NOT be on electronic monitoring system + must surrender his passport within 24 hours.” Adding: “His travel is restricted to the Washington, DC area.”

There’s a small possibility that the broadcast networks could give it airtime Friday morning, but don’t hold your breath.

The omission of this serious development in the Durham investigation was made possible because of the lucrative sponsorships from Prevagen on ABC, SimpliSafe on CBS, and Fidelity on NBC. Their contact information is linked so you can tell them about the biased news they fund.

BRET BAIER: A Russian analyst who helped provide information for the now-infamous dossier that fueled the Trump-Russia investigation has been arrested. It is a crucial part of the ongoing probe we’ve been telling you about since the beginning by Special Prosecutor John Durham.

Correspondent David Spunt has the latest details tonight from the justice department. Good evening, David.

DAVID SPUNT: Bret, good evening. Big story. His name is Igor Danchenko and he is charged with five counts of lying to the FBI. He was arrested this morning. He was in custody earlier today. We have some fresh video within the last hour and a half of him leaving court in the Eastern District of Alexandria.

Special Counsel John Durham says Danchenko – you see him there in the white shirt – a Russian national living in Northern Virginia, was the primary source for British spy Christopher Steele, who compiled the widely talked about yet debunked Steele dossier full of accusations about former President Donald Trump.

The indictment alleges that Danchenko lied to the FBI about working for Steele as his primary source of information. Danchenko appeared in federal court in the eastern district of Virginia, just a few hours ago, where a judge released him with no electronic monitoring. The indictment also mentions Danchenko’s involvement with someone identified as PR Executive One, someone believed to be close to the Hillary Clinton operation.

Danchenko is the third defendant to be charged in John Durham’s two-and-a-half-year probe looking at the origins of the Russia investigation into Trump and his associates. The other two, Bret, Kevin Clinesmith, a former FBI attorney, pleaded guilty to falsifying a document used to obtain a FISA warrant against a Trump campaign aide, Carter page; the other, Michael Sussmann is the former Clinton campaign attorney charged with lying to the FBI about alleged connections between Donald Trump and the Kremlin. Sussmann’s information did not pan out.

Today, a judge signed an order dealing with classified information as part of Sussmann’s case. Durham, Bret, is clearly building a pattern charging lower-level officials lying to the FBI. Attorney General Merrick Garland recently confirmed Durham’s budget was renewed and he continues to do his job.

Now, while Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty. Sussmann pleaded not guilty. He wants to fight this all the way until to the end. Igor Danchenko tried to plead not guilty in court today, but the judge said this is not the appropriate time, this is not an arraignment.

What will he do? Well, he will be in court next week. And of course, we will follow it. Bret?

BAIER: Great job. We will follow it David, thank you.
