New York City Imposes Covid Vaccine Mandate For Employees of Private, Religious Schools

US

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday announced a Covid vaccine mandate for employees of private and religious schools.

“Vaccinations are the key to our recovery, and our public schools are among the safest places to be in the city,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “Childcare centers will now be just as safe, and it’s time to use the tools we have at our disposal to climb the ladder even further. We’re doing everything in our power to protect our students and school staff, and a mandate for nonpublic school employees will help keep our school communities and youngest New Yorkers safe.”

CBS New York reported:

New York City is issuing a COVID vaccine mandate for employees of Catholic schools, yeshivas and other private schools.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday workers need to get their first dose by Dec. 20.

The mandate impacts about 56,000 employees at more than 900 schools.

New York has some of the strictest Covid mandates in place.

Restaurants, theaters and gyms in New York City require patrons to present a Covid vaccine passport for entry.

Despite the vaccine mandates and passports, New York’s Covid cases topped 11,000 for the first time in a year.

Meanwhile, Florida – a state with zero vaccine mandates – has the lowest daily Covid cases per capita.
