Look on the Bright Side: At Least Confidence in Our Elections Has Increased!

Elections

The Washington Post has a new poll out which shows that only 69 percent of Americans consider Joe Biden’s election legitimate. But as our friend Byron York has pointed out, as of October 2017, only 57 percent of Americans considered Donald Trump’s election legitimate. And in three polls through December 2000 and April 2001, only 55, 58, and 62 percent of Americans respectively considered George W. Bush’s election legitimate. It’d be better if partisans more readily accepted the victories of the other side (assuming there’s no compelling reason not to), but this is not a new phenomenon, even if Trump’s conduct has been completely unprecedented.
