Dwarf actors fire back after Peter Dinklage gets dwarves canceled in new ‘Snow White’ movie: ‘Disney— call me’

News & Politics

Dwarf actors are speaking out against fellow actor Peter Dinklage and the criticisms that Dinklage lodged at Disney over a forthcoming remake of “Snow White.”

What is the background?

Dinklage made headlines last week after condemning Disney over its “f***ing backwards” plan to remake the iconic film “Snow White,” which was first released in 1937 as an animated feature.

Dinklage, who made more than $1 million per episode as a lead actor in “Game of Thrones,” said in part:

There’s a lot of hypocrisy going on. literally no offense to anyone, but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White — but you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me. You’re progressive in one way, but then you’re still making that f***ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together? What the f*** are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.

Disney responded to Dinklage’s criticism by saying producers would take a “different approach” to the seven dwarf characters in the upcoming film.

“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community,” a Disney spokesperson told the Hollywood Reporter. “We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period.”

What happened now?

Dylan Postl, known for his roles in “The Muppets” and in WWE as “Hornswoggle,” called out Dinklage for hypocrisy and for potentially taking jobs away from dwarf actors who would have gladly accepted roles in Disney’s upcoming film.

“It makes me so sick to my stomach to think that there are seven roles for dwarfs that can’t get normal acting roles, or very few and far between roles, and now they are gone because of this guy,” Postl told the Daily Mail.

“Peter Dinklage is the biggest dwarf actor probably of all time but it doesn’t make him king dwarf. When he was cast as a little person role in ‘Lord of the Rings’ or in a ‘Game of Thrones’ or in ‘Elf’ or this that or the other thing… those checks cashed just fine. He had no issue then,” Postl added. “But now he wants to be progressive? Come on man.”

Postl also called Dinklage “selfish,” and said his remarks are yet another example of woke ideology run amok.

“I don’t know if Peter Dinklage is still acting or if he is done now but I don’t know… it’s pretty selfish. People came before him. If it is his mindset that he wants to be the only one then you gotta grow up man,” Postl said. “It’s not helping our community it’s taking jobs away from our community that are very few and far between as it is.”

“We are in a society and a time of woke and progression and I get that — to an extent — but this is a fairytale,” he said. “This is a fairytale about Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Dwarves are one of the focuses — they are literally in the title.”

Postl explained that he would jump at the opportunity to play a pivotal role in a major Disney film.

“To be in a remake of one of the biggest fairytales, biggest Disney stories of all time, would be enormous,” he said. “I know me and six other little people who would love this role. Disney— call me. This would be a dream role for me. I am begging for one.”

Other actors with various forms of dwarfism, including Katrina Kemp and Jeff Brooks, agreed with Postl’s assessment.

“Dwarf is a medical term. The condition I have is achondroplasia dwarfism. That is a fact. I am a dwarf,” Brooks told the Daily Mail. “I am hoping they cast Little People and give them the work… Peter Dinklage may be hurting the chance of some dwarf actors here. And it scares me that Disney would change a decision that big over the comment of one actor. They have been too quick here.”

“It’s a missed opportunity to make a movie with seven little people where they actually have intended characters,” Kemp agreed. “There will have been people who gladly would have taken those roles. Are they people gunning for a SAG award? No. Peter has the privilege not to take the roles. The people who are freaking out about this do not.”
