Far-left Squad member Ilhan Omar booed relentlessly at Somali concert in Minneapolis: ‘Go home!’

News & Politics

Ilhan Omar, the Democrat Congressional representative from Minnesota’s fifth district, did not receive a warm welcome when she took the stage during a Suldaan Seeraar concert over the weekend.

At the Target Center in Minneapolis during Somali Independence Week, Omar joined Suldaan and others on stage when a chorus of boos arose from the largely Somali audience. Some people can also be heard shouting “Go home!” and “Get the f*** outta here!” at Omar.

The booing lasted for approximately one minute while Omar tried repeatedly to laugh it off and engage with the crowd.

“Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, we don’t have all night,” Omar said initially.

When that failed to calm the crowd, she asked, “How’s everybody doing in Minneapolis?”

But the boos kept coming.

“So I’m excited on behalf of [unintelligible],” she tried once more, to no avail. Though others on stage allegedly pleaded with the crowd not to “do this,” the crowd continued to show its displeasure with Omar.

In their respective write-ups about the booing incident, both Ryan Saavedra of the Daily Wire and Martin Walsh of Conservative Brief mention that Omar had recently criticized the Kennedy decision from the Supreme Court, which recognized a public high school football coach’s right to pray after a game.

“The Supreme Court just ruled that public school teachers can pressure students to join in prayer at public school events but can also retaliate against those that don’t join in. Religious freedom is dead in America,” Omar tweeted in response.

However, there is no indication that those comments caused the backlash against her at a concert in her own district.

For her own part, Omar still embraced her appearance at the concert. On Twitter, she shared a video of the introduction she and her husband received from the concert announcer before they walked on the stage.

“Welcome to Minneapolis Sultan,” she tweeted in reference to Suldaan. She then added, “It was an honor to welcome you to our incredible city.”

Omar also recently called for packing the Supreme Court and for “an impeachment investigation into Clarence Thomas’s role in the January 6th coup, as well as into Gorsuch, Alito, Barrett, and Kavanaugh’s testimony on Roe during their confirmation hearings.”

Like all congressmen and women, Omar is up for re-election this November. However, Politico rates her district as “solidly Democratic,” an indication that she might win her re-election bid easily despite the recent boos.
