MSNBC Hypes Not Celebrating July 4th Due to ‘Evil of the Republicans’

News & Politics

The cast of Saturday’s The Cross Connection on MSNBC was not happy with President Biden for allegedly being too nice to Republicans and welcomed those who did not celebrate the 4th of July on Monday, declaring that know they know how it feels to face the “evil of the Republicans.”

Host Tiffany Cross declared that Biden isn’t the man for the job. Addressing podcaster Brittany Packnett Cunningham, she lamented, “this is part of the challenge, you know, because you and I tweet and text about this all day, part of the challenge is relaying the horror of white supremacy on people who have never been on the receiving end of it.”

Biden’s supposed problem is that he “believes in the inherent goodness of people, because he’s never experienced the blunt force of white violence. He’s an institutionalist who says things like, ‘I’m going to work with Republicans,’ not ‘I’m going to beat these Republicans.’”

Cross and her guests did not want to hear of bipartisanship, “We want to hear how you’re going to beat this man, not how you’re gonna work with him.”

Cunningham began her remarks by alluding to pro-abortion activists who were upset that the Supreme Court has now required them to win elections, “Period, Tiffany. I mean, it was fascinating to see the number of people who for the very first time ever decided, hey maybe July 4th isn’t a holiday that I want to celebrate, because I don’t feel all that free.”

She also declared this is a feeling that many of had for a long time, “ Suddenly people are recognizing that the rights that they thought were automatic, that were inherent, because they are an American, because they have the racial identity or gender identity that they have, they thought that those things were secure. Well guess what? They are not.”

Cunningham then listed several things to justify her unpatriotic stance including, “incurring record levels of student loan debt, we are enduring a climate crisis that threatens our very existence, we have low and stagnant wages, we are certainly not able to put a low down payment on a home and own that home and build generational wealth for our families. We’re under the threat of constant gun violence, of constant identity-based violence, and that is the tip of the iceberg.”

Before turning her ire to Democrats’ communication strategy, she acknowledged, “Look, we have seen the evil of the Republicans,” as if Republicans had anything to do with that list.

Cunningham concluded her remarks by demanding Democrats “match the urgency of the moment with this same energy.”

Loudly proclaiming you are not celebrating Independence Day and calling your opponents evil while families struggle with inflation is probably not the best strategy.

MSNBC The Cross Connection with Tiffany Cross

7/9/2022

TIFFANY CROSS:  Yeah, you know, and Britney, this is part of the challenge, you know, because you and I tweet and text about this all day, part of the challenge is relaying the horror of white supremacy on people who have never been on the receiving end of it.

Biden believes in the inherent goodness of people, because he’s never experienced the blunt force of white violence. He’s an institutionalist who says things like, “I’m going to work with Republicans,” not “I’m going to beat these Republicans.” So, for those of us who are feeling the brunt force of that looks like, and we are descendants of the people who felt the bloody bruises of what that looks like, how can we relay that message like, “hey go hard or go home Slim, because now is not the time for bipartisanship we don’t hear that.” We want to hear how you’re going to beat this man, not how you’re gonna work with him.

BRITTANY PACKNETT CUNNINGHAM: Period, Tiffany. I mean, it was fascinating to see the number of people who for the very first time ever decided, hey maybe July 4th isn’t a holiday that I want to celebrate, because I don’t feel all that free. For a whole lot of that we haven’t been feeling free for a long time. Suddenly people are recognizing that the rights that they thought were automatic, that were inherent, because they are an American, because they have the racial identity or gender identity that they have, they thought that those things were secure.

Well guess what? They are not. I couldn’t agree with you more, Tiffany, the urgency of the moment is what we have to keep communicating. And it is really easy to condescend millennials, and Gen Z-eers, as if we are just some privileged lot.

But the fact of the matter is, we are incurring record levels of student loan debt, we are enduring a climate crisis that threatens our very existence, we have low and stagnant wages, we are certainly not able to put a low down payment on a home and own that home and build generational wealth for our families.

We’re under the threat of constant gun violence, of constant identity-based violence, and that is the tip of the iceberg. Look, we have seen the evil of the Republicans. There is no doubt about that, and I will continue to shoot that, shout that from the rooftops. But you can’t condescend people to the polls. And yelling at young people–

CROSS: Right.

CUNNINGHAM: –  to go and vote, it’s not actually effective. My question to the Democrats is, do you want to be right, or do you want to be effective?

You have to match the urgency of the moment with this same energy, otherwise we’ll not just see political disenfranchisement and disenchantment for this election cycle, we’ll continue to see it for years to come. Young people are on track, according to the latest Harvard Youth Poll, to vote in the same numbers that they did at the last election cycle, but 56% of them believe that [technical difficulties] are no longer able to meet the challenge our [technical difficulties] and that is with the Democratic [technical difficulties].
