In a sign of just how desperate Democrats are to rid themselves of the Biden millstone around their necks, yet another Democrat Member of Congress has refused to say Joe Biden should run for re-election in 2024—even adding that she spoke for “a lot of us” within the Dem party!
On today’s Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski interviewed Democrat Rep. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan. At the end of the interview, Mika expressed surprise that in a recent debate, two Dem Members of Congress declined to say Biden should run again. She didn’t name the congressmen, but it clearly seemed to be a reference to a debate between Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney, who are facing each other in a primary in NY’s 12th District.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: So, Congresswoman, I’ve got kind of a [hesitantly pauses], a question for you, putting you on the spot a little bit.
But I was very taken by a debate, a part of a debate between two Members of Congress running for re-election. They were asked a pretty simple question. And given the discussion you just had about Roe, and about women’s rights. I do know that President Biden, he speaks really eloquently about this issue and about a number of other issues.
That you would think that the Democratic party would be quite proud of his accomplishments, absolutely on the world stage, given the potential world war that he’s kept at bay. That’s saying that sort of advocating.
So, my question to you is, do you think President Biden should be running for re- election? Is that even a question in your mind?
Mika thus placed herself in that extremely exclusive group of people who think Biden speaks “really eloquently”—about anything!
Slotkin, in a blatant dodge, first responded as if Mika had asked whether Biden has decided to run. But Mika held Slotkin’s feet to the fire;
SLOTKIN: I have no special insight, obviously, into what the president is deciding with his family, with his advisers.
MIKA: That’s not what I’m asking you. I’m not asking you what his family’s debating. I was just surprised at how hard it was for two Members of Congress to talk about whether or not their president, if they think he should run again.
SLOTKIN: Look, a sitting president, if he decides to run again, he should run again. And the Democratic party will support the president as a, as an incumbent running again. I, I don’t personally think that that’s a hard debate.
But I do think, in general, I think there’s a lot of us who want to see new voices rise in the party. And that’s not just the presidency, by the way. That’s the House, the Senate, all over the place when it comes to this party.
Slotkin is surely referring the the House Democrat leadership, with Nancy Pelosi (82 years old), Steny Hoyer (83), and Jim Clyburn (82).
So when it comes to “a lot of us” Democrats wanting “new voices,” it’s “not just the presidency,” but it includes the presidency.
Question answered—don’t let the Oval Office door hit you on the way out, Joe!
But while “a lot” of Democrats clearly don’t want Biden to run, Ol’ Joe still has his diehard supporters in the liberal media—notably including Mika Brzezinski!
