Nikolas Lanum at Fox News reports that nearly every major fact-checker has completely ignored White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre since she took over for Jen Psaki. Fox has energetically pointed out KJP preposterously claimed no one walks across the Southern border, which no “fact checker” touched.
Since starting her position on May 13, Jean Pierre has received no fact-checks from Factcheck.org, Reuters, The Associated Press, The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler, and CNN’s Daniel Dale, according to a review by Fox News Digital.
Kessler pointed Fox News Digital on Tuesday to a 2021 tweet explaining that the paper rarely fact-checks politicians’ spokespersons, preferring to focus on policymakers themselves. None of the other sites or individuals responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Can we take a second and marvel at how “independent fact-checkers” don’t return phone calls asking about their checking? Aren’t they supposed to be saving democracy from darkness or something? Would they like everyone they check to refuse to answer their phone calls? Kessler, on the other hand, has shown that he will return calls or emails requesting comment.
Kessler also fessed up that his tweet wasn’t quite accurate in his 2021 thread: “I was factchecked and it turns out we did 3 fact checks of [Sean] Spicer. And it looks like 1 of Sarah Sanders. Still, a tiny portion of our fact checks. Maybe it was once a year for the Obama folks too.” Kessler checked on Jen Psaki twice, once about Republicans allegedly hiking taxes and of course, on murdered Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudi-bashing specialist who ran all his articles past the government of Qatar (no Pinocchios for Psaki there).
Lanum noted PolitiFact has two fact-checks of Jean-Pierre, and Snopes.com has one. PolitiFact was alone in “fact checking” when the White House press secretary came under fire in July after she claimed the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade was in fact an “unconstitutional action.”
