MSNBC’s Joy Reid: Democrats Nominate Better Quality Black People

On Thursday night’s The ReidOut, things got vile right from the beginning when host Joy Reid used the opening segment of her MSNBC show to personally insult Georgia Republican Senate candidate Hershel Walker and made the racist accusation that Republicans nominate lesser quality black people than Democrats do. Being the racist that she is, Reid claimed that’s why African Americans don’t vote for Republicans.

After cutting live to a rally in Georgia held by former President Barack Obama in which he mocked Walker, Reid cut away and boasted “that is the black excellence that Democrats expect and that’s why black folks vote for Democrats. If Republicans want to answer the question, that’s the answer.”

Reid then listed off a list of other black Democrats who she deemed competent and intelligent:

Gary Chambers in Louisiana, Chris Jones is a literal rocket scientist who ran in Arkansas. Charles Booker in Kentucky, Mandela Barnes, who was the lieutenant governor. It’s what the expectations that are met among black folks, which is—Stacey Abrams, that’s why black folks vote for Democrats.

Reid’s guest, Democrat strategist Don Calloway reasoned that while “both parties have ceded some wing of their nomination process to celebrity,” “the difference is on the Democratic side, even in a universe where politics is now the realm of celebrity, on the Democratic side, we tend to nominate qualified and competent people.”

“There’s no evidence that that is the case on the Republican side from everything from President with Donald Trump,” Calloway sneered.

Without evidence, he claimed the “Republican Party would rather give the reins of the American experiment to these unqualified deeply flawed characters rather than let everyone play equally.”

He ended his race-baiting by claiming “one-half of the American experiment would rather burn it down than live in a universe where you and I and Barack Obama get to participate freely in our multicultural democracy.”

This racist segment was made possible thanks to the endorsement of Chase. Their information is linked so you can let them know what you think.

JOY REID: That is the black excellence that Democrats expect and that’s why black folks vote for Democrats. If Republicans want to answer the question, that’s the answer. Right? I mean, Gary Chambers in Louisiana, Chris Jones is a literal rocket scientist who ran in Arkansas. Charles Booker in Kentucky, Mandela Barnes, who was the lieutenant governor. It’s what the expectations that are met

DON CALLOWAY: Sure.

REID: Among black folks, which is—Stacey Abrams, that’s why black folks vote for Democrats.

CALLOWAY: You know for a long time now, both parties have ceded some wing of their nomination process to celebrity. And some of that has to do with fundraising. Some of that has to do with telegenaity [sic] if that’s a word and all the others.

REID: It is.

CALLOWAY: But the difference is on the Democratic side, even in a universe where politics is now the realm of celebrity, on the Democratic side, we tend to nominate qualified and competent people.

There’s no evidence that that is the case on the Republican side from everything from President with Donald Trump. If you notice that diatribe about werewolves and vampires was very similar to his comparison at the White House correspondents’ dinner of Donald Trump making decisions between who to fire, Ed Baigly Jr. Or Lil Jon. Right?

It’s the same stuff because these are a deeply unqualified universe of people that came as a residual effect of the Donald Trump years. But it is more indicative of the idea that the Republican Party would rather give the reins of the American experiment to these unqualified deeply flawed characters rather than let everyone play equally.

And I don’t want to get too philosophical. I’m a political practitioner, but there’s a philosophy that guides what we do in reaching out to these voters and in organizing votes. And the philosophical right here is that one-half of the American experiment would rather burn it down than live in a universe where you and I and Barack Obama get to participate freely in our multicultural democracy.
