While the mother was away from her SUV, a Mercedes pulled in front of her vehicle. Within seconds, a person jumped out of the Mercedes, ran to the mother’s vehicle, and attempted to drive away. However, the suspect did not make it far.
The mother noticed the carjacker just in time and ran after her vehicle. On the home surveillance footage, the mother is heard yelling, “Hey! What the f*** are you doing, motherf**ker? My daughter’s in there!”
The carjacker fled from the mother’s SUV and sprinted down the road, with the Mercedes following behind. The mother’s abandoned SUV is seen on video slowly creeping toward the other side of the road. The vehicle comes to a halt after colliding with a wall.
According to KTVU, the DoorDash driver’s child, who was in the SUV at the time of the incident, was not harmed.
Oakland Police Department told Fox News Digital, “When officers arrived, they learned that when a victim stepped away from their vehicle momentarily, an unknown individual entered the vehicle and proceeded to drive away. The individual stopped and exited the vehicle moments later.”
Law enforcement reported that the investigation is still ongoing and encouraged anyone with information to contact Oakland authorities.
In a statement regarding the incident, DoorDash told Fox News Digital, “This attempted carjacking was a horrifying situation for the driver, and we are incredibly relieved that both she and her child are unharmed.”
According to the national nonprofit Kids and Car Safety, at least 264 children were left in vehicles that were stolen in 2022. So far this year, at least 13 documented carjackings have involved children left in vehicles.
Kids and Car Safety director Amber Rollins told Fox News Digital, “Children should not be taken along during personal vehicle delivery jobs if they’re going to be left alone inside the vehicle for any amount of time. This leaves them vulnerable to these situations that are happening at alarming rates.”
