Video shows a New York City deli clerk narrowly cheating death. A Queens bodega worker miraculously survived an attack at point-blank range by a man armed with two guns.
Surveillance footage captured the moment that an armed man dressed in black with a face mask marched into the Rockaway Express Deli in South Ozone Park. Around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the gunman walked right up to the counter and shot the deli worker from less than two feet away. The shooter rattled off three gunshots that caused the 47-year-old deli clerk to slump to the floor as he held his head in pain.
The gunman exited the deli, but then stormed back to the crime scene with a rifle. As the bloodied clerk was struggling to get off the floor, the gunman pointed the rifle over the counter and blasted several shots at the deli worker. The suspect then left the bodega.
The deli clerk and a customer were injured in the shooting. Both victims were rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Police said the deli worker was shot in the eye. The 27-year-old customer suffered a wrist injury — possibly from a ricocheting bullet or shell casing, according to the New York Post.
Police named Donnie Hudson as the shooting suspect and arrested the 35-year-old man on Wednesday night.
The New York Daily News reported, “Hudson, who lives above the deli, was arrested a few hours later and charged with attempted murder, assault, and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said.”
The outlet said that the shooting was a “result of a long-standing beef between the two men,” according to police sources.
Investigators said Hudson visited the deli earlier on the day of the shooting, according to WABC-TV. Hudson reportedly told detectives that deli employees had been stealing from his home.
Hudson was reportedly held without bail after his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on Thursday.
