MRC Free Speech America VP Dan Schneider Praises Congress for ‘Finally’ Holding Big Tech to Account

News & Politics

“[Tech companies are] using their power and their resources against Americans,” MRC Free Speech America & MRC Business Vice President Dan Schneider said on Fox News.

Schneider went on Fox Business’s Varney and Co. to discuss the Feb. 22 Fox Opinion piece he co-wrote with MRC founder and President Brent Bozell. The piece, “Big Tech is finally being held accountable beginning with these subpoenas,” explained how Big Tech is finally being held accountable for its bias and censorship of Americans through subpoenas issued to Big Tech CEOs. Schneider and Bozell warned against potential mistakes, offered solutions for reform and highlighted unique MRC research on online censorship.

Host Stuart Varney asked Schneider what he hopes to see come out of the congressional hearings. Schneider explained why Big Tech shouldn’t have special carveouts that other companies don’t get.

“These are the biggest corporations in the world,” Schneider emphasized. “We’ve never seen corporations of this magnitude. Apple alone is bigger than the Gross Domestic Product [GDP] of almost every single European country.”

With great size comes (too) great control. “They are massive, and they have massive control. And yet we’re supposed to believe they need to be shielded from liability? This is absurd,” Schneider exclaimed. These Big Tech companies have a “twisted worldview and a radical agenda to match,” he stated. “They’re using their power and their resources against Americans.”

Varney noted that the U.S. Supreme Court seems “to favor” social media giants and be uninterested in holding them accountable. Schneider briefly explained what is really at stake in the two Big Tech cases being brought before the U.S. Supreme Court. “It’s really asking whether the Anti-Terroris[m] Act trumps the liability shield,” Schneider said.

And Schneider suggested there’s something very sinister at play for these Big Tech companies. “[T]he most important thing for people to understand is that Google, and Facebook, and Twitter, that they actually have intentionally and purposefully made money off of these terrorist organizations, while at the same time censoring conservatives, regular Americans who are simply trying to voice their—their common sense values,” he said.

The censoring of Americans is the core issue, according to Schneider. “So we’re the targets of these Big Tech platforms, not the terrorist organizations,” he concluded. “This is outrageous.”

Bozell and Schneider said in their piece that the CEOs of Apple, Meta (Instagram and Facebook’s parent company), Amazon and Alphabet (Google’s parent company) were subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee. They also highlighted MRC studies, including the pre-2022 election interference studies showing Google’s anti-Republican search engine bias.

Conservatives are under attack. Contact your representatives and demand that government agencies and Big Tech be held to account to uphold the First Amendment. If you have been censored, contact us at the Media Research Center contact form, and help us hold Big Tech accountable.
