CNN reporter robbed ‘again’ while covering crime in San Francisco: ‘These criminals are on another level’

A CNN news team was robbed in San Francisco while reporting on the rampant crime in the city.

CNN senior national correspondent Kyung Lah expressed frustration after being robbed “again” in San Francisco. Lah and Jason Kravarik – senior producer for CNN’s Los Angeles bureau – had their car looted by thieves while they were inside City Hall for a story about crime affecting Asians in San Francisco. The robbery took place despite the CNN employees having personal security to guard their vehicles.

“Got robbed. Again. [Jason Kravarik] & I were at city hall in San Francisco to do an interview for CNN,” Lah tweeted. “We had security to watch our rental car + crew car. Thieves did this in under 4 seconds. Security stopped the jerks from stealing other bags. But seriously – this is ridiculous.”

“Our hired security guard tried to grab the crooks (I’m glad he didn’t get hurt!) but he got this picture of the getaway car,” she said. “To the jerks who stole our stuff — I hope someone on this site sees your plate and you get caught.”

Kravarik wrote on Twitter, “We were covering how Asian San Franciscans are upset at crime and school issues… well we learned it first hand.”

He added, “These criminals are on another level in SF.”

Lah said that San Francisco is a “beautiful city,” but warned tourists, “But if you do visit this city, know that even with hired security watching your car, it is not enough.”

Lah said the thieves stole all of her identification and passport, which she needed for her flight back to Los Angeles. She divulged that crime is so out of control in San Francisco that Southwest Airlines employees were “very used to” flyers having their ID’s stolen in the Golden City.

The CNN reporter later revealed that her bag was recovered. Kravarik’s bag was discovered at a restaurant in San Francisco, where robbers attempted to break into another vehicle. However, Kravarik’s computer was still missing.

Last March, a TV news reporter was robbed at gunpoint by a gang of thieves while he was coincidentally covering a spree of robberies in San Francisco.

San Francisco criminals have targeted photographers who are shooting engagement photoshoots, stealing their equipment in broad daylight outside the romantic Palace of Fine Arts.

Walgreens shut down several locations in San Francisco because of “organized retail crime.”
