Alleged attempted kidnapper who offered candy to kids stopped by parents during escape attempt

A man was arrested in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, after he allegedly tried to kidnap two children who were at the beach on Memorial Day, according to Fox News.

Local reports said that John Beaubrun offered two children candy in an attempt to coerce them into leaving with him, but the children refused. Then, Beaubrun reportedly grabbed the two children and attempted to escape before family and bystanders stopped him. The adults reportedly forced the alleged kidnapper to let the kids go.

According to Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation, Beaubrun was charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping and two counts of child abuse with no great bodily harm. He was held in Miami-Dade County jail on a $25,000 bond.

Beaubrun’s arrest comes just days after a home security video captured an attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl in Murrieta, California.

Surveillance video captured the man walking down the street before he stopped in front of the victim’s home and spoke to the young girl.

“Hey, what is that shirt? Can I see your shirt?” he can be heard asking on the video. Then he lunged at the girl and chased her up the driveway.

“As a father, as a parent, this is literally your worst nightmare,” the father stated. The man added that his daughter is traumatized by the incident and that she doesn’t want to walk or bike to school anymore. She also has trouble sleeping, he said, waking up in the night thinking that the alleged kidnapper is coming after her.

“I’m mad. I’m furious,” the father continued. “I don’t want any parent to go through this sort of trauma or any kid to undergo this trauma again, and I just want to make sure this guy is caught,” he added.

“It makes me angry,” a nearby neighbor and father-of-four said upon hearing the news of the attempted kidnapping.

“This is a quiet neighborhood, you see parents outside with their kids always playing. So, it is nerve-racking,” another neighbor told reporters.

Miami-Dade County Community Affairs did not immediately respond to inquiries.
