MSNBC’s Phang Enlists Trump’s Nasty Niece In War Against MSM Coverage of Republicans

News & Politics

Katie Phang Mary Trump MSNBC The Katie Phang Show 6-4-23 Katie Phang’s war against media coverage of Republican presidential candidates rages on.

Last week, we caught MSNBC’s Phang bemoaning the fact that:

“There are media outlets that are providing platforms for potential GOP primary candidates to be able to get out and just sell their wares.”

As we commented then:

“Yes, the last thing you’d want in the People’s Republic of MSNBC is for wrong-thinkers to be permitted to sell their wares’ to the public!”

We also nominated Phang to be Komissar Of The Ministry Of Truth. But perhaps Phang should be promoted—to Supreme Commander of the War Against Media Coverage of Republicans.

On her show on Sunday, Phang enlisted a very willing recruit to her army: none other than Mary Trump, Donald Trump’s niece. The subtitle of her book says all you need to know about how she views him: “How My Family Created The World’s Most Dangerous Man.”

As Phang fretted about whether the country could survive the 2024 election, Mary Trump offered up three suggestions.

She began by claiming that Democrats need to understand that “the fight [Republicans] fight is going to be a dirty one, we need to respond accordingly.” That was nothing less than an unsubtle call on Democrats to wage a dirty fight.

Phang then teed Trump up by asking:

“How should mainstream media handle this 2024 election cycle? So far, we’ve seen runaway town halls and networks that continue to court election deniers.”

Mary said she was “shocked” that the MSM is giving airtime to such Republicans.

“Katie, it’s really shocking. This notion that both sides deserve equal time, even though  one of those sides is constantly lying.”

Here’s an idea: once Phang assumes her new role as Supreme Commander, let Mary fill her vacated spot as Komissar Of The Ministry Of Truth. And in that role, she’ll be able to dictate how much airtime each side gets. To paraphrase the old TV commercial line about prunes: would 3 minutes a week for Republicans be enough? Would 6 minutes be too many?

Mary then took her philosophy to its logical conclusion: Trump shouldn’t be allowed to run for president at all! As she put it:

“Unbelievably enough, because of our deeply broken system, [Trump] is being allowed to run for president again.”

Yes, what kind of deeply broken system allows someone the left detests to run for president? In her role as Komissar, let’s give Mary the power to rule who will—and will not—be “allowed” to run for office! That’ll fix the “deeply broken system” for sure!

Phang ended the segment with a bit of oblivious hypocrisy that, depending on how you view it, was either hilarious or infuriating. She teased an upcoming segment by saying:

“I also want to tease that later on in the show, we are going to have some coverage about a censorship fight. There is a parent in Escambia County, Florida who’s actually fighting back against book bans.”

This, from the woman who wants networks to ban Republicans from media coverage, and who brings on a guest who wants to ban Donald Trump from running for president at all!

Katie Phang bring Trump niece Mary Trump on to express opposition to Republicans getting equal time from the media, and condemning the fact that Donald Trump is allowed to run for president again, was sponsored in part by Subway, Servpro, Procter & Gamble, maker of Bounce, and Allstate.

Here’s the transcript.

The Katie Phang Show

KATIE PHANG: Joining me now is Mary trump, host of the Mary Trump show podcast, author of Too Much and Never Enough, How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, and The Reckoning, Our Nation’s Trauma and Finding a Way to Heal. She’s also the niece of Donald J trump.

. . .

Suffice to say, as the title of your last book suggests, America’s been traumatized for a number of reasons. But I’d say a lot of it, Mary, stems from the divisive and hateful politics that has become our country.

How can we survive the next presidential election cycle and not be re-traumatized, especially by somebody like Donald Trump?

MARY TRUMP: Yeah, it’s going to be difficult. And I think it’s important to be upfront about that and understand what we’re in for. You know, it’s going to be a long, quite difficult election season.

But if we remember, first of all, that there are more of us than there are  of them, and if we organize and hang on to that knowledge. And also understand that the fight they fight is going to be a dirty one, and we need to respond accordingly.

And, you know, the second thing is, in the process of this nomination, the Republican party may well tear itself apart. Or at the very least, weaken itself in a way that will be helpful for democracy.

PHANG: But how should mainstream media handle this 2024 election cycle? So far, we’ve seen runaway town halls and networks that continue to court election deniers.

TRUMP: Katie, it’s really shocking. You know, I haven’t had much hope for the mainstream media since probably the Iraq war.

But, you know, 2016, was the nadir of horrible reporting, and this notion that both sides deserve equal time, even though one of those sides is constantly lying. And by the way, undermining democracy. It’s pretty shocking, even though I guess it isn’t surprising anymore.

First of all, I have never quite understood why they continue to treat Donald Trump as a normal candidate. I think the very first thing that should be said about him when anybody’s reporting on anything he’s doing is that he is the perpetrator of the big lie, which was one of the most egregious attempts to undermine the faith of the American people in free and fair elections. And two, that he incited, planned, and led an insurrection against his own government.

Those are the first two things anybody should hear about this man who, unbelievably enough, because of our deeply broken system, is being allowed to run for president again.

PHANG: You know, Mary, I want you to stay with us. Because have the privilege and the luxury of being able to have you for another block. But I also want to tease that later on in the show, we are going to have some coverage about a censorship fight. There’s a parent in Escambia County, Florida who’s actually fighting back against book bans.
