CNN edits headline after furious backlash against biased framing of anti-Israel protester arrested over death of Jewish man

CNN faced vicious backlash over its biased framing of the arrest of an anti-Israel protester who was accused of causing the death of an Israel defender in Thousand Oaks, California.

65-year-old Paul Kessler, a Jewish man, died after he was struck in the head and fell during a protest on Nov. 6. After an investigation, law enforcement officials arrested 50-year-old Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji on Thursday and charged him with involuntary manslaughter as well as battery causing serious bodily injury.

Kessler was transported to a hospital where he was declared deceased.

CNN used passive voice in its headline to make it sound as if no one was responsible for the death of the man.

“Arrest made in death of Jewish protester who fell and hit his head,” read the headline.

Critics quickly lambasted CNN for the bizarre framing.

“There’s no fixing this. Either journalists are doing it on purpose or they’re too far gone to know the difference. Either way,” responded Omri Ceren, the national security advisor to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

“If Paul Kessler simply fell and hit his head, why would an arrest have to be made? Why was bail set at $1 million? This. Is. CNN,” replied columnist Joe Concha.

“CNN obviously hates Jews but loves Hamas sympathizers. They also love to obscure the truth to match their worldview,” read another critical missive.

“CNN is hot garbage. But this headline is beyond the pale,” read another response.

“How do you arrest a sidewalk,” joked humorist David Burge.

CNN later edited the headline without issuing a editor’s note about the change.

“Man arrested and charged in death of Jewish protester in California after confrontation over Israel-Hamas war,” read the edited headline.

Ceren noted the change but pointed out that CNN neglected to change the same tone in the article.

“You know what they didn’t change? The story itself. Which word for word repeats that headline. Are they doing this on purpose?” he tweeted.
