Rep. Mace: Biden-Harris Admin Needs to ‘Cease and Desist’ Censorship

Is the Biden administration still interfering in elections and ordering social media companies to censor content? That’s what one Republican congresswoman set out to uncover.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), who chairs the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation, issued a Sept. 11 press release and letter to the president and vice president inquiring about the government’s continued censorship operations. In both, she addressed the issue of potential continued collusion between the administration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and tech companies to suppress speech related to elections. Mace insisted the government must “cease and desist any such activity” immediately.

“In the interest of good government, and to ensure the integrity of the upcoming national election, I am writing to request information on any information suppression campaigns in which the Administration is currently engaged.” She also urged the administration to “ensure that all employees of the Executive Branch refrain from exerting political pressure on social media companies to censor content in accord with White House preferences.”

Mace’s message comes soon after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg published a letter admitting his company had censored the New York Post reports on the Hunter Biden laptop scandal in 2020 after government pressure. Mace referred to that letter and the 2020 censorship in her message.

She detailed how the FBI primed Facebook (Meta) to censor the laptop scandal with warning of “foreign interference” and “misinformation.” Mace highlighted how censorship of the scandal swung the 2020 election for Joe Biden. Indeed, an MRC poll just after the election showed that 17 percent of Biden voters would not have voted for him, a number Mace referenced in her letter.

The congresswoman also noted Zuckerberg’s admission that his company has even censored humor and satire in response to pressure from the Biden-Harris administration.

Mace wrote that her House legislation to prevent such tech-government collusion never got past the Senate, and requested any communications between federal employees and social media companies related to censoring speech.

“From the outset, your Administration has advertised its willingness to manipulate the content of social media sites,” Mace accused. She cited a July 2021 press briefing during which then-White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced that the Biden-Harris administration was ”flagging problematic posts for Facebook that spread disinformation.”

She noted that Biden’s White House “was in regular contact with social media companies to raise concerns about certain types of information on their platforms,” Mace added, “The White House has not apologized for this activity or indicated that it would cease and desist from engaging in such behavior.” Ahead of the 2024 election, it is key that such an assurance be made.
