The 17-year-old suspect accused of shooting his 16-year-old girlfriend 22 times has been released on $250,000 bond.

What are the details?

Authorities say that the suspect, Frank DeLeon, fatally shot Diamond Alvarez earlier in January when the teen was walking her dog near her Houston, Texas, home.

The horror unfolded around 9:30 p.m. local time on Jan. 11 when Frank was said to have met Diamond at a nearby park.

Diamond’s family said that they didn’t know their daughter was going to meet up with Frank and that they became immediately concerned when they heard a series of gunshots ring out from the direction of the local park. The shots prompted Diamond’s mother, Anna Machado, to call her daughter on her cell phone, but the teen didn’t answer, prompting Machado to fear the worst.

Before the family could go out on foot looking for Diamond, the family’s dog, Peanut, returned to their home without his owner.

“My son found her,” Machado told KPRC-TV, which noted that the teen was shot at least 22 times. “I tried so hard to keep her alive. I couldn’t, I couldn’t … I tried CPR. I couldn’t bring her back. I tried so hard to keep her alive.”

Frank was nowhere to be found by the time Machado family found their loved one in an empty field close to the park.

Following an investigation, police on Monday arrested Frank and charged him with the teen’s murder.

KHOU reported that prosecutors said the majority of the 22 shots were fired at Alvarez as she lay bleeding on the ground.

“He was just angry at my daughter. It wasn’t love, it wasn’t a breakup, he was angry at my daughter,” Machado told KPRC-TV. “I loved everything about my daughter, I don’t regret anything. I’m at peace because I gave her all the kisses and all the hugs. I have to be strong now. I can’t break, this is not over.”
