RFK Jr. says he’ll ‘make a major announcement’ Oct. 9

News & Politics

Democratic presidential primary candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has released a video in which he says he plans to “make a major announcement” in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 9.

Kennedy, who has been polling far behind incumbent Democratic President Joe Biden, did not divulge exactly what his announcement will be, but he said that he will discuss “our path to the White House and how we can all participate in healing our nation.” He spoke of changing “the habits of American politics.”

Mediaite has reported that the presidential hopeful plans to announce that he will run for president as an independent.

“Bobby feels that the DNC is changing the rules to exclude his candidacy so an independent run is the only way to go,” a Kennedy campaign insider noted, according to the outlet.

Kennedy has been critical of the Democratic Party.

“The DNC and the Joe Biden campaign have essentially merged into one unit, financially and strategically, despite the promise of neutrality in its charter and bylaws,” Kennedy wrote in an open letter directed toward Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison and members of the DNC. “The DNC is not supposed to favor one candidate over another. It is supposed to oversee a fair, democratic selection process, and then support the candidate that its voters choose.”

On the Republican side of the aisle, former President Donald Trump has been trouncing the rest of the GOP presidential primary field in polling. Trump, who skipped the two Republican primary debates that have been held so far, appears to be on track to secure the party’s presidential nod for the third consecutive presidential election cycle.
