Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot tests positive for COVID-19, suggests absence of symptoms is due to vaccination

News & Politics

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced on Friday that she had tested positive for COVID-19 but noted that she was not experiencing any symptoms.

Lightfoot suggested her dearth of symptoms is due to having already been vaccinated and boosted.

“Earlier today, I tested positive for COVID-19. I am thankfully not experiencing symptoms which I attribute to being vaccinated and fully boosted. I will work from home while continuing to follow the CDC guidelines for isolation. This is a reminder to get vaccinated and boosted this holiday season to keep you and your loved ones healthy and safe,” she said in a statement.

Lightfoot issued a similar statement when she tested positive earlier this year in January, though at that time, she was experiencing symptoms.

“Earlier today, I tested positive for COVID-19,” she tweeted in January, adding, “I am experiencing cold-like symptoms but otherwise feel fine which I credit to being vaccinated and boosted.”

Former President Bill Clinton announced last month that he had tested positive. “I’m grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, which has kept my case mild, and I urge everyone to do the same, especially as we move into the winter months,” he tweeted.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is seeking a statewide grand jury to probe any wrongdoing pertaining to COVID-19 vaccines.

“Florida law prohibits fraudulent practices, including the dissemination of false or misleading advertisements of a drug and the use of any representation or suggestion in any advertisement relating to a drug that an application of a drug is effective when it is not,” the governor’s petition to the state Supreme Court reads. “The pharmaceutical industry has a notorious history of misleading the public for financial gain. Questions have been raised regarding the veracity of the representations made by the pharmaceutical manufacturers of COVID-19 vaccines, particularly with respect to transmission, prevention, efficacy, and safety. An investigation is warranted to determine whether the pharmaceutical industry has engaged in fraudulent practices. The people of Florida deserve to know the truth.”
