New Jersey police arrested two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old in relation to the murder of a 57-year-old taxi cab driver on Thursday.

Somerset County prosecutor John McDonald said that the three teenagers confronted driver Kofi Addo of North Brunswick after they entered his cab in Franklin Township.

Police believe they intended to rob the man but instead shot him during the botched robbery.

Security video from the scene showed the cab crash into parked cars after the incident. The three teens allegedly fled on foot after the crash.

When police responded to calls of shots fired near the intersection of Rose Street and Sydney Place, they found Addo with a gunshot wound. He later died at a trauma center after first responders tried to perform life-saving measures.

An autopsy by the New Jersey northern regional medical examiner found that Addo had died from a gunshot to the head.

Police arrested the three teenagers on Friday.

Two of the teenagers were charged with first-degree murder, along with a slew of other charges.

Those included first-degree robbery and second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of a weapon in the second degree, and fourth-degree possession of a firearm by a minor.

The last teenager, a 13-year-old, was charged with robbery and conspiracy.

The three were sent to a Middlesex County youth detention center and are scheduled for a family court appearance. Their names were not released due to their underage status.

Police are asking for the public’s help in obtaining information in the ongoing investigation.
