Four family members arrested in case of teen restaurant host who said patrons beat him up, knocked him out; one suspect pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2021

Four family members have been arrested in the case of a teen restaurant host who said patrons beat him up and knocked him out late last month — and one of the suspects pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2021.

Brittany, Carol, Darius, and Kaitlin Brantley were charged with aggravated assault, WREG-TV reported, citing Memphis police, adding that they all were booked into jail Thursday.

More from WREG:

According to a police report, Brittany Brantley and another family member became upset because it was taking too long for their large party to be seated.

Darius Brantley exchanged words with the host, then allegedly attacked him from behind. Brittany Brantley joined in, punching him until he fell and hit his head against a brick wall, the police record states.

The employee was taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries and later told police he was unconscious for 20 to 30 minutes. Records state he suffered a concussion, bruises and abrasions to his face, a black eye and bruised lungs.

As it turns out, Darius Brantley is no stranger to law enforcement.

He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on November 8, 2021, in connection with a June 2, 2019, incident, WHBQ-TV reported, adding that he was sentenced to three years in the Shelby County Department of Corrections.

In yet another case — this time involving a theft from Wing Stop — WREG said he posted bond July 11.

Brittany Brantley was charged with misdemeanor assault in 2019, WREG reported, adding that a police report shows she was stopped for speeding, and a check of her driver’s license revealed she had a warrant on the assault charge which was issued a day earlier.

A WREG news crew on Friday went to the address listed for the Brantleys, but the station said no one answered answered the door.

The teen faced his alleged attackers in court Monday during their arraignments, WREG said in a separate story, adding that the teen was with his mother and father.

The 17-year-old’s mother, Latisha Ford, told the station she wanted to be there with her son to let the accused know justice would be served, adding that she’s unhappy all four were out of jail.

Darius Brantley was released on a $40,000 bond; Kaitlin Brantley was released on a $20,000 bond; Brittany Brantley and Carol Brantley’s bonds were $10,000, WREG reported, adding that they’re all scheduled to be back in court August 11.

“They should not let them out. They should make them sit in jail,” Ford told the station. “They are a menace to society.”

Ford said her son is headed into his final year of high school but had to put senior photos on hold because of his black eye, WREG said, adding that the family set up a GoFundMe to help him with senior expenses.

The teen spoke off camera to WRAL-TV and said he quit his job at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in Cordova, a suburb of Memphis, because he’s in fear for his life.
