Houston girl accuses stepfather of sexual abuse, so her dad shoots him three times, police say

News & Politics

Houston police are investigating a shooting that was precipitated by accusations of sexual abuse by a 12-year-old girl against her stepfather.

The girl made the accusations in a note she left for her mother on Friday, Jan. 5.

Police said the mother read the note and then immediately went to get her daughter from her ex-husband and brought her to the mother’s apartment.

The mother was discussing the allegations with the biological father at the apartment complex at about 8:30 p.m. when the stepfather, who is in his 30s, arrived at the residence and reportedly denied the allegations, police said.

When the mother and the daughter stepped out of the apartment, police said that the biological father shot the stepfather three times.

Police described the stepfather as being in “bad shape” from the gunshots, two of which were to his legs and one was to his stomach. He was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery. He is expected to survive.

The biological father is likely to face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

No charges have been filed against the stepfather yet, but police say the investigation is ongoing. They are interviewing the daughter to help determine if her claims have validity.

Police told reporters that the stepfather and the mother had been married for long time and that the woman had four kids aged between 10 and 17 with the ex-husband. They said the ex-husband lived in an apartment complex near the one where the mother lived.

“Prayers for that whole family,” said Lt. Ronnie Willkens. “A lot of moving parts. Our investigators are on top of everything.”
