Police search for bystander who shot and killed thug after he allegedly pistol-whipped and robbed man at Houston gas station

Texas police want to question a bystander who shot and killed a thug that had allegedly pistol whipped a man and stole his wallet at a gas station in northwest Houston.

Houston Police Department Lieutenant Ronnie Wilkens said that a couple had stopped at the Zip In- Zip Out Chevron gas station at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when they were confronted by a young, armed adult male.

The male allegedly demanded property from the man who was pumping gas and then allegedly struck him with his gun. After stealing the man’s wallet, the assailant began to run away, but a bystander pulled his own gun and shot him twice in the upper body.

The assailant was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital by paramedics.

Video showed the bystander step out of a red car as he was parked in front of the gas station and point his gun at the running male. After the assailant went down, the bystander walked to the victims’ car and reportedly told them to get their property back from the attacker.

The entire incident lasted only about 10 seconds.

A legal analyst told KHOU that the man is unlikely to face charges for the shooting.

“And looking at this video, anybody would think that this shooting was justified under the circumstance,” said Carmen Roe.

Although it appears that the assailant was shot in the back, Roe explained that the shooter could have still believed his life was under threat since the attacker had pistol-whipped the victim.

She also compared the case to a similar shooting at a taqueria where a customer shot and killed a man who was threatening customers with a gun during a robbery. A grand jury refused to file charges against the man in January.
