Texas police arrested a man found covered in blood after his wife was shot and killed at an apartment unit in San Antonio.
Police said they responded to a call from the Oak Creek Apartments at about 7 a.m. on Monday, and when they arrived, they found a 44-year-old man behaving oddly and covered in blood from the waist up.
“He was walking up and down the sidewalk here just acting very bizarrely,” said Sgt. Steven Bratina. “One person called thinking he might step into traffic.”
While police were dealing with the man, they received another emergency call.
“At the same time we got a call about a body inside an apartment,” said Bratina. “So officers made entry and they did indeed find the body of a woman.”
When they talked to the man, he allegedly told them he was covered in the blood of his 51-year-old wife. They arrested the man without incident, and he was charged with murder.
Police said they found a gun near the scene of the crime and they believe it may be the murder weapon, but that will be determined through forensic testing.
A neighbor to the victim, named Mayra Orta, told KENS-TV that she went back to sleep after hearing a loud bang just as police were arriving to confront the man.
“I did hear a sound that was like a gunshot but then I said maybe it was a firework. I never peeked out but he was using the F-word and just screaming and me I thought it’s probably somebody else, they’re drunk or something,” Orta said.
“I feel sorry for the person that died,” she added. “But with this happening that it’s so close to my place it’s like okay, gonna be a little more aware, even though I am now.”
