Comedian Whitney Cummings says she got in trouble for saying ‘merry Christmas’ while on the set of ‘Roseanne’

Comedy writer Whitney Cummings revealed that she was reprimanded by human resources after she wished a coworker “merry Christmas” on the set of the TV show “Roseanne.”

Cummings, a longtime comedian and writer for Comedy Central’s roast programs as well as the show “2 Broke Girls,” discussed her disdain for “woke” employees with fellow comedian Bill Maher.

On Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, the duo discussed how one “social justice warrior” at a workplace can ruin the experience for all the other employees.

“I am paranoid about hiring … with the way people are now, especially the younger generation. We’re a happy group and we have been for a very long time, and we function really well together. People don’t wanna leave,” Maher said about his own production.

“All it takes is one stupid f**king uber-woke person who thinks they’re a social justice warrior but they just want to stir up s***,” he added.

Cummings then recalled facing discipline while working on the set of “Roseanne.”

“I think most people are reasonable, I think we hear from the fringes the most, like when HR called me to tell me I was in trouble for saying ‘merry Christmas.’ They were like ‘hey, so like,’ they thought it was ridiculous too,” Cummings remembered. “I confronted the person and I basically was like ‘you’re dangerous to everybody in this office.'”

The sitcom was a beloved blue-collar show on ABC (Disney) that turned woke and fired star Roseanne Barr over alleged racism on X, then Twitter. The show originally ran from 1988 to 1997 until being rebooted in 2018 before Barr’s firing.

The show name was then changed to “The Conners” and carried on without Barr.

Maher was apprehensive about agreeing that everyone is against being woke in its entirety.

“That’s a good story and I’m glad it came out that way for you, but I am not as sanguine as you are about the idea that the ridiculous don’t have fans,” Maher stated. “No one ever gets in trouble for being too woke. You can’t get canceled for being too woke,” he continued.

Maher and Cummings also discussed Donald Trump’s ability to win over audiences and recognize the needs of certain demographics, which Cummings attributed to him studying Joseph Stalin and others.

Maher, disagreeing that Trump has ever “studied anything,” also compared him to Stalin as well as Adolf Hitler.

“Not Hitler ‘kill all the Jews Hitler,’ but Hitler: master politician, instinctive politician who was crazy. Because Trump is crazy, clinically kind of crazy but has that instinct of playing on peoples’ sense of being wounded, and being owed something, and resent to politics … he does not read anything!”
