Spanish-Language Media’s Preferred Coverage of Uvalde Massacre: Push For Gun Control

News & Politics

The horrific events at Uvalde, Texas, where a teen psychopath shot and killed 19 school children and two teachers have triggered the anchors and correspondents at the Spanish-speaking corporate media into a frenzied political coverage in support of gun control.

Here is just a sample of how Telemundo, Univision, CNN En Español and Estrella TV have given themselves over to lobbying on-air for gun control and opposition to the Second Amendment.

The massacre revived- yes- revived the debate over gun control in Congress

Gun control

Gun control

Gun control

Gun Control

Gun control

Gun control

But the gun control debate continues

Gun control

Gun control

Gun control

Gun control

For gun control

Gun control

For gun control

The debate on gun is once again reactivated

Gun control

Greater gun control

Greater and better gun control

For gun control

Those who say more needs to be done about gun control

Will new gun control laws be passed?

Will there finally be stricter laws on gun control?

Will anything be done this time?

The shameful insertion of politics into the heartbreaking reports about a tragedy that is still in progress, as new developments about the shooter, the shooting and the response by local law enforcement continue to emerge, comes as a slap in the face of those suffering the horrendous pain of unexpectedly losing a loved one under such circumstances. Especially in a tight-knit community where most of the residents are Hispanic – and in all probability, watch those same news channels.

Shame on these newscasts for choosing shameless advocacy over sensitivity. Muy mal.
