Punked: Author Gets Time Magazine to Use Farcical Pronouns

News & Politics

It’s been quite a week for Maia Kobabe. First, he or she (don’t know, don’t care) won the right to have a dirty book in libraries where kids can get to it. Then, Kobabe got Time Magazine (yep, still exists) to debase itself and refer to him or her with silly made-up pronouns. That’s power baby!

A Virginia judge ruled Tuesday that Kobabe’s memoir, Gender Queer, couldn’t be banned from libraries – no doubt a super important victory for alphabet soupers everywhere. It got Time’s attention, and Time ran an interview with Kobabe.

The only interesting part of the article comes right near the beginning:

In the 2019 illustrated graphic memoir, Kobabe, who uses e/em/eir pronouns, explores eir process of coming out as nonbinary and asexual.

Okay, a lot of disturbed people use silly pronouns these days, and there are liberals who play along. But get a load of this tweet from Time promoting the story:

Again, the story’s not important. Read it if you’re so inclined. But Time was once a serious, venerable publication (okay, many decades ago). To watch it indulge Kobabe like this would be sad, if it weren’t so funny. Is it possible Time is being punked?

Hey Time, I’m available for comment on just about anything you’d like. My pronouns are toaster/cumquat/cavalry charge.
