MSNBC’s Beschloss: ‘Fascist’ DeSantis a ‘Local Mussolini in Florida’

News & Politics

On MSNBC’s Velshi, fill-in host and turncoat Republican Michael Steele brought on pseudo-historian Michael Beschloss to give his take on the current Republican Party and the looming presidential campaign. As per usual, Beschloss took the segment off the rails and provided the most unhinged and conspiratorial take imaginable while disguising it as a historical analysis.

After losing his mind over former President Donald Trump’s candidacy, turned his sights to the leftwing media’s other favorite target: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

He insisted that DeSantis is faking who he is to win the Republican nomination. “People who try to get a nomination in parties, do it by trying to appeal to what they think will work. Well, look what Rick DeSantis [sic] has done in Florida. He was known as sort of a nondescript political leader, member of Congress,” Beschloss proclaimed.

“Suddenly he really has tried to turn himself into sort of a local Mussolini in Florida. With the book banning, and the brutal tactics, and even this week, this suggestion that bloggers have to register with the state, for the honor of writing about the governor and other political leaders?” He sneered.

“This is fascism and authoritarianism that goes even beyond what Trump has talked about.” So not only is DeSantis a local Mussolini, but according to Beschloss he’s worse than Trump.

This is the kind of “historical analysis” you get on MSNBC.

MSNBC’s latest vile attacks against Ron DeSantis were made possible by Chevron. Their information is linked.

MICHAEL BESCHLOSS: But the even more dangerous thing, Stacey and Michael, is that you know, people who try to get a nomination in parties, do it by trying to appeal to what they think will work. Well, look what Rick DeSantis [sic] has done in Florida. He was known as sort of a nondescript political leader, member of Congress.

Suddenly he really has tried to turn himself into sort of a local Mussolini in Florida. With the book banning, and the brutal tactics, and even this week, this suggestion that bloggers have to register with the state, for the honor of writing about the governor and other political leaders? We have to call this what this is.

This is fascism and authoritarianism that goes even beyond what Trump has talked about. That’s what he thinks is gonna work in that party, and in a way, that’s the scariest thing of all.
