ACLU ridiculed for changing pro-abortion quote from Ruth Bader Ginsburg to make it trans inclusive

News & Politics

Many on the left took the one year anniversary of the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to praise her life, but the ACLU was ridiculed for awkwardly editing her quote to make it more inclusive of transgender people.

The American Civil Liberties Union posted the quote to their official Twitter account on Saturday.

The original quote from Ginsberg asserted that the “decision to whether or not to bear a child is central to a woman’s life, to her well-being and dignity.”

The version posted by the ACLU replaced words referring to women with those that would include transgender women.

Many on social media ridiculed the absurdity of the civil liberties organization erasing women from what was supposed to be a statement of support for women’s rights.

“The pronoun wars are bad and silly but editing a Ginsburg quote to remove any reference to ‘women’ looks so clumsy,” responded Dave Weigel of the Washington Post.

“The ACLU censoring language in a direct quote from Ruth Bader Ginsburg is very on brand for what they are about now,” tweeted Jon Levine of the New York Post.

“The ACLU removed the word woman and put in the word person in this quote. It seems like a bizarre choice to me, and I don’t care how people choose to identify. But why edit history that way?” asked liberal commentator Zaid Jilani.

“The idea that women bear children is now decidedly anti-civil liberties,” replied attorney Pranesh Prakash.

The effort to change language and strip it of gender in order to accommodate the LGBTQ+ agenda has led to awkward and bizarre outcomes. Instead of using the word “breastfeeding,” some organizations are also using the phrase “chestfeeding,” while “gestational parent” is recommended to replace the word “parent.”
