Seattle bartender slashed in the face by a customer with a sharpened broomstick over vaccination dispute, police say

A bartender was slashed in the face by an irate customer with a sharpened broomstick after she asked the customer to provide proof of vaccination, police said.

The alarming incident unfolded at Joe’s Bar and Grill in Seattle, Washington, on Monday.

Police said that witnesses called at about 5:15 p.m. after the attack. They told police that the male customer slashed the bartender in the face over the dispute.

“I asked him, ‘do you have your vaccination card?’ and he said ‘I’ve had the vaccine but I don’t have the card’ and I was like OK but you need to have proof of it,” said Felicite Ogilvy to KOMO-TV.

The suspect fled the scene, and police were unable to locate them. They believe that the suspect used the light rail system to escape.

Medics treated the bartender for the lacerations to her face.

“He swung the stick as hard as he could at my face, so not only did it puncture me, he also slit me,” Ogilvy explained.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the suspect.

Ogilvy needed 31 stitches for the deep wound she sustained in the attack. She said that she didn’t agree with the mandate but that she had to enforce it because of her job.

The case is just one of numerous stories of violence and mayhem due to the defiance against social distancing guidelines to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

In one heinous incident from Michigan in July 2020, a man was shot and killed by police after he stabbed a 77-year-old man outside a dairy store for demanding that he wear a mask. It was only two days after the governor had issued the mask mandate for the state.

In another incident from Georgia in June 2021, a man allegedly shot and killed a female grocery store cashier after she asked him to wear a mask in the store. An off-duty deputy returned fire and shot him twice. Police arrested the man as he tried to crawl out of the store.
