Former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle was issued a subpoena Thursday by the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 rioting at the U.S. Capitol after she walked out on a voluntary interview.
Guilfoyle accused the committee of violating her conditions while she appeared at an interview about the Jan. 6 incident by teleconference on Feb. 25. She said that they had agreed to have no committee members present at the interview and that they had leaked news about the interview to the media.
The committee denied that they had made that commitment and also that they had leaked to the media.
On Thursday, Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) explained why the committee was seeking her testimony in a letter Thursday.
“Ms. Guilfoyle met with [former President] Donald Trump inside the White House, spoke at the rally that took place before the riot on January 6th, and apparently played a key role organizing and raising funds for that event,” Thompson said.
“Because Ms. Guilfoyle backed out of her original commitment to provide a voluntary interview, we are issuing today’s subpoena that will compel her to testify,” he added. “We expect her to comply with the law and cooperate.”
The letter went on to claim that Guilfoyle told one rally organizer that she had “raised so much money for this. Literally one of my donors Julie at 3 million,” which they said was a reference to Julie Fancelli, a financial supporter of the demonstration.
Guilfoyle left “The Five” on Fox News to join a pro-Trump super-PAC in the 2018 midterm elections and later became engaged to Donald Trump Jr.
On Wednesday, the committee outlined a possible criminal case against Trump and his lawyer John Eastman, accusing them of attempting defraud the U.S. and try to overturn the official results of the 2020 presidential election.
