New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) accused Texas Gov. Greg Abbott of engaging in “anti-American” actions in a new interview that aired on Wednesday.
What did Adams say?
Adams continued to engage in his political war against Abbott while speaking to ABC News’ “Nightline,” this time accusing Abbott of taking “anti-American” actions by busing migrants to Democrat-controlled cities.
“It’s the worst type of politics. It’s hateful politics to raise his national profile and, you know what, you should not be doing it by taking away the respect and dignity of people who are in need,” Adams said.
“What the Texas governor is doing is just so anti-American,” Adams charged.
In a very telling admission, Adams admitted that he has not spoken directly with Abbott. However, Adams claimed his office reached out to Abbott to “coordinate.”
But, as TheBlaze previously reported, Abbott has invited Adams to visit the Lone Star State and see the border crisis firsthand. Adams rejected the invitation.
What have others said?
While Adams accuses Abbott of using migrants as “political pawns,” former New York Gov. David Patterson (D) believes Abbott is pulling off a “brilliant” strategy.
“The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has come up with what I think is one of the most brilliant political strategies I’ve heard in a long time,” Patterson said in a radio interview recently.
“Now, I’m a Democrat and there are a lot of things I don’t like about what he’s really doing,” Patterson continued. “However, sometimes you have to tip your cap to your opponent, and in this case, he is sending hundreds of aliens who come into the country by bus to New York City, which is a sanctuary city, [and it] has really paid dividends to him politically.
“In addition, it puts New York’s mayor, Eric Adams, in the position where he can’t say he won’t accept the immigrants because that will be going against what has been the policy most Democrats have about immigration in the first place,” he added.

Despite his heavy-handed rhetoric targeting Abbott, critics from within New York City say Adams is essentially using the influx of migrants into the Big Apple as a scapegoat to distract from existing problems with the city’s homeless shelter system.
