The fall of Roe was an important milestone in the pro-life movement, but there is a lot more work needed to defeat the culture of death that permeates American society.
The Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned Roe v. Wade, reversing 49 years of nationwide legalized abortion in the United States.
Contrary to the dishonest reporting in corporate media, the decision that was announced on June 24, 2022, did not outlaw abortion. It simply sent abortion law back to the states for the people to decide. But even that fact was of little consolation to the people who believe that killing a child in the womb is a human right. Pro-abortion activists rent their garments, wept, wailed, and gnashed their teeth on the steps of the Supreme Court.
Today is the first March for Life in post-Roe America, and I have no doubt there will be a great deal of rejoicing over the fact that abortion is no longer a “right” protected by the Constitution. I’m certain there will also be sorrowful reflection for the more than 60 million babies who were aborted since 1973. These two reactions should be expected, given the half-century pro-lifers have spent strategizing, marching, lobbying, and praying for the end of abortion. It is always good to give God thanks for answered prayers.
Prayer is exactly what’s needed for people who weep over life the way most people do over death. The prospect of more babies being born in this country is a sign of oppression and regression to people who see abortion as a necessary tool in the fight for women’s empowerment.
That is because the most powerful forces in American culture all celebrate death, and unfortunately, killing Roe is far from the final battle in the fight for life.
The all-out attack on biological sex is the next frontier of the left’s death campaign. The people who accuse others of denying science for not believing a cloth mask and Pfizer can “defeat” a respiratory virus also seem to think men can get pregnant.
Such a fringe view would be mocked and ridiculed unmercifully in a proper country, but our elites have worked tirelessly to legitimize this view. They have transformed pronouns from an essential component of grammar to a sign of cultish obedience. They use distorted language and confused terms like “people with the capacity for pregnancy” to describe women and “prostate owner” to refer to men.
But the worst part of the trans death cult is its effects on the human body. Thousands of people – including minors – have destroyed their bodies through invasive surgeries. Teenage girls have received “gender-affirming” hysterectomies and double mastectomies. Life-changing surgeries that are typically performed on women battling fibroids and cancer are now performed on adolescents to the applause of medical associations, public health authorities, big tech, big business, Hollywood, and the current administration.
It should come as no surprise that the nation’s largest abortion provider is now one of the largest players in the trans industrial complex. Teens can now walk into Planned Parenthood facilities and walk out with cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers. The organization is turning the children they couldn’t destroy in the womb into lifetime patients, many of whom will mutilate their bodies and deal with medical complications and emotional trauma for decades.
The death cult is visible outside medical facilities as well. Politicians and intellectuals who encourage drug use in the name of “harm reduction” are promoting destruction in the name of compassion. The same goes for elected officials and activists who coddle criminals and punish law-abiding citizens who don’t want to be victims.
Our media and entertainment industries provide the soundtrack to our death march. Rappers who have spent decades glorifying death and destruction are rewarded with the Super Bowl halftime stage. Lil Nas X and Demi Lovato use their music to promote satanic imagery, with the knowledge that their critics will be the ones accused of fearmongering and intolerance.
This cultural sickness is the natural result of rejecting God in favor of a worldview that hates order and boundaries. The shift in abortion rhetoric from “safe, legal, and rare” in the 1990s to “shout your abortion” in the 2020s should serve as a stark reminder of how quickly a culture can lose its moral compass.
What we need today more than ever is a cohesive, life-affirming vision of the future and people who are unafraid to promote it in the public square. Young people need to know that they were created in God’s image, all life has inherent worth, the human body is designed with purpose, sex is never “casual,” marriage is good, and children are a blessing.
They need to know that promoting a culture of life is a far superior option than joining a cult of death.
