If you wonder which criteria must be met for a Congressional ethics investigation to garner coverage at Univision, it’s quite simple: just don’t be a Democrat. Specifically, don’t be Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
For proof, let’s take a look at Univision´s coverage of the House Ethics Committee investigation into AOC for allegedly accepting impermissible gifts related to the 2021 Met Gala that was made public on Thursday, March 2, 2023: A grand total of 0.0 seconds. Zero. Nothing. Nada was aired about this development over Univision’s airwaves.
Of course, as MRC´s Jorge Bonilla previously observed, Ramos, Univision´s senior anchor and Special Editorial Advisor to the CEO, will always find a way to display effusive servility to his beloved leftist Latina trailblazer, as this clip from last Sunday’s edition of Ramos´ Al Punto talk show confirms.
Watch as the veteran newsman makes the most of a 55-second report on Republican Congressman George Santos (R-NY) – who is also undergoing an ethics investigation- to call for his resignation under the cover of a poll by the University of Siena.

JORGE RAMOS: We now go to Washington where the House Ethics Committee is launching an investigation into Congressman George Santos. The Republican who represents New York state has been accused of lying several times about his private life but he insists he will not resign. Our correspondent Claudia Uceda spoke with Santos earlier this week and this was their exchange.
CLAUDIA UCEDA: Are you going to resign?
GEORGE SANTOS: No.
SANTOS: I’m not going to quit. I won my office with 140,000 votes from the people New York´s Third District
UCEDA: You lied but won’t resign
SANTOS: I tell you that all people make mistakes in their lives and I am no different.
RAMOS: A recent University of Siena poll reveals that 66% of New York voters, statewide, believe that Congressman Santos should resign from office.
“A recent University of Siena poll reveals that 66% of New York voters, statewide, believe that Congressman Santos should resign from office,” stated Ramos.
Missing from Ramos’ report was any mention of AOC´s case where she allegedly broke House rules that forbid lawmakers from accepting gifts such as “a gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, forbearance, or other item of monetary value.”
In AOC´s case, she supposedly took her famous “Tax the Rich” haute couture dress with matching shoes and jewelry that she wore for the 2021 Met Gala, for gifts. That in addition to other alleged expenses for herself and a friend, including hair, makeup, room service, and transportation.
In addition, Univision skipped mentioning how, according to an NBC News report, AOC stiffed the hairdresser, paying her only after the stylist threatened to file a complaint with the New York City Office of Labor Policy and Standards for Workers.
Nor was a word said about the fact that the avowed socialist only paid for all the bourgeois goodies that she proudly displayed for the cameras at the Met Gala´s Red Carpet event, after learning of the Ethics Committee investigation.
Ethics has no color. Be it a Republican or a Democrat, red or blue, we citizens expect transparency and ethical behavior from our public servants. The same goes for the media; favoring one party over the other in a flagrant display of bias, is not something that Univision´s audience deserves.
