Latina Republican rep. fires back at Democrat blaming her gun pin for Nashville school shooting: ‘Beta energy rhetoric’

News & Politics

Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida fired back at a Democrat who blamed her for the horrible school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, over her wearing a gun pin to Congress.

Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee went on MSNBC to accuse Republicans of being responsible for the shooting allegedly committed by a transgender-identifying woman who had been a student at the Christian school.

“Right now in Congress, it’s pathetic. It’s hard for me to serve up there now with some of the people that I have to serve with,” said Cohen after host Katy Tur put up images of Luna and another member of Congress who wear gun pins.

“I mean, they’re part of the danger,” he added. “It’s just, they are so attached to guns, there’s just no hope for them.”

He also repeated the left-wing narrative that Republicans like Luna only support gun rights because of political donations from the National Rifle Association.

Luna responded on Tuesday in a statement posted to her official social media account.

“It’s pretty sick that you’re trying to imply I caused this,” read the statement from Luna.

“I survived an armed robbery, home invasion, gang shooting on campus, & my husband was shot. It’s this beta energy rhetoric that contributes to the senseless politicization & celebrity status of mass shooters,” she added.

“Do yourself a favor and stay away from cameras for a bit,” she concluded. “Sounds like you could use some reflection.”

Three children and three staff members were killed in the Nashville school shooting. Police officers were able to respond quickly and gun down the assailant in the school. The attacker was later identified as a 28-year-old transgender-identifying woman.

In February, Luna issued a series of scathing retorts against the Washington Post over claims that she had fabricated some events in her life story. The news organization later had to issue corrections to its story.

“The left hates conservative minorities,” she concluded at the time.
