Planned Parenthood, Hillary Clinton-backed judge wins Wisconsin Supreme Court seat

Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Janet Protasiewicz, who was backed by leftists, won a Wisconsin Supreme Court contest on Tuesday.

The Wisconsin Democratic Party shelled out more than $8 million to her campaign, according to the Associated Press.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin endorsed Protasiewicz for the state Supreme Court slot.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder both supported Protasiewicz.

According to NBC News, the election outcome will shift the court’s current 4-3 conservative leaning majority to a liberal majority.

Protasiewicz defeated former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Dan Kelly, who had been backed by pro-life groups. Kelly was appointed to serve on the state Supreme Court by then-Gov. Scott Walker (R) in 2016, but Kelly lost an election in 2020.

Justicedanielkelly.com describes the man as a “judicial conservative who will apply the law as it is written, rather than legislate from the bench.”

“It was really about saving our democracy, getting away from extremism and having a fair and impartial court where everybody gets a fair shot in the courtroom,” Protasiewicz said after winning, according to the AP. “That’s what it was all about.”

Kelly blasted Protasiewicz during remarks on Tuesday, declaring that he wished he could “concede to a worthy opponent” but that there was no such opponent to whom he could concede. He went on to describe the campaign as the “most deeply, deceitful, dishonorable, despicable campaign” he has “ever seen run for the courts. It was truly beneath contempt,” he declared. “My opponent is a serial liar,” he claimed, asserting that she had “disregarded judicial ethics” and “demeaned the judiciary with her behavior.”
