Remains of decapitated goats found behind Burger King in New York, SPCA described incident as ‘ritualistic sacrifice’

Officials from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals described a gruesome discovery in Farmingdale, New York, as a “ritualistic sacrifice.”

The remains of two headless goats were found in black plastic bags behind a Burger King on Broadhollow Road on Thursday, according to police.

Detectives with Suffolk County’s SPCA said that other items found at the scene also supported the idea of a ritualistic sacrifice.

Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk County SPCA, said that they were offering a reward of $2,000 for information leading to the arrest of whoever was responsible for what he called a “barbaric act of animal cruelty for unjustifiably harming, mutilating, or killing an animal.”

A photograph from the Suffolk County SPCA showed the black plastic bags in a pile on a shaded grass area near what appeared to be a parking lot.

This is not the first time the SPCA has identified a bizarre discovery as a ritual sacrifice.

In Sept. 2022, SPCA officials decried the discovery of the remains of five decapitated chickens and two decapitated goats at a site near the Northern State Parkway. The decomposing remains discovered in that incident were also found in black plastic bags. Fruits and vegetables were also found in the bags.

The site of the 2022 incident in Melville was only about 5 miles away from the latest incident in Farmingdale.

“All too many times these gruesome finds are discovered not only by adults but occasionally by children,” said Gross of the latest incident. “These acts of violence must stop now.”

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Suffolk County SPCA.
