Anti-Italian HATE: Whoopi Attacks DeSantis’s Immigrant Heritage

News & Politics

Since it’s a day that ends in “y” (Tuesday), Disney’s attack dogs on ABC’s The View were trying to savage Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. Of course, they were still pushing Vice President Kamala Harris’s BIG LIE about Florida schools teaching that slavery was a good thing, but moderator Whoopi Goldberg took a disgusting swing at the Governor by disparaging this Italian family’s immigration to the United States.

Goldberg’s anti-Italian HATE flared when she tried to engage in a bit of one-upmanship and suggest her family’s history as slaves and generations on American soil were better than his.

“And just so we’re clear, we’re not going anywhere! We’ve been here, Mr. DeSantis!” falsely suggesting he was trying to get rid of black people in America. “Many of us have been here for generations. Can you say the same?” she scoffed. She and co-host Joy Behar agreed that he couldn’t:

BEHAR: I don’t think he can.

GOLDBERG: No, I don’t think he can.

While Goldberg was busy becoming the nativist caricature the left paints Republicans as the fact of the matter was that DeSantis’s family has been here for generations.

According to a 2018 Tampa Bay Times hit piece trying to portray him as a hypocrite on the issue of legal and illegal immigration, DeSantis’s great-great-grandmother Luigia Colucci immigrated from Italy during the first Italian diaspora in 1917 and his great-great-grandfather “had been in the United States since 1904.”

Clearly, Goldberg’s assertion was false, his family had been in the United States for generations. It was a very anti-immigrant attack from Goldberg, but then again it was her trying to go up against someone in the left’s Grievance Olympics.

Goldberg’s ugly attack was sparked by racist co-host Sunny Hostin who suggested DeSantis didn’t care about black voters. “I think he’s doubling down on it because there’s no question that black voters aren’t going to vote for him,” she bitterly declared. “But he doesn’t care about those votes.”

It’s very rich that The View proclaimed to care so much about the accuracy of history when Goldberg herself spewed lies about the Holocaust not being about race, then doubled down on them after she was supposedly punished with a two-week vacation.

Aside from those nasty attacks, there was a hilariously dumb comment from faux-conservative co-host Alyssa Farah worth mentioning. According to her, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez (R) was going to come out as a “primary challenge” against DeSantis in the next gubernatorial race and “win.”

There was just one small problem with her prediction. Florida has term limits and a person can’t hold the office for more than two consecutive terms. And since DeSantis just won reelection (by almost 20 points) in 2022, he’s ineligible to run again.

Just some more of that expert analysis ABC News is famous for.

Whoopi Goldberg’s anti-Italian immigration hate was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from CarFax and General Mills. Their contact information is linked.

SUNNY HOSTIN: I think he’s doubling down on it because there’s no question that black voters aren’t going to vote for him. There are very few black Republicans. When a black person tells you that this is their lived experience, it is and so you should listen. But he doesn’t care about those votes.

And I think what you should also — we also have to remember is he didn’t change AP Asian Studies. He didn’t change AP Latino Studies. He changed only out of the entire curriculum in Florida African American Studies, because he knows that is divisive in this country because it was founded on slavery, it was founded on the backs of black people because we built this joint for free!

[Applause]

That’s what this is about.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Don’t forget, don’t forget that this is —

HOSTIN: We built the White House.

GOLDBERG: This is – Listen – We built the White House.

HOSTIN: Twice.

GOLDBERG: We have done – We’ve been here – I’m tired of explaining it. I’m tired of explaining it.

[Applause]

You know? And just so we’re clear, we’re not going anywhere! We’ve been here, Mr. DeSantis! Many of us have been here for generations. Can you say the same?

JOY BEHAR: I don’t think he can.

GOLDBERG: No, I don’t think he can.

ALYSSA FARAH GRIFFIN: By the way – not like this is what matters – He’s undercut his best argument was electability against Trump [uses finger quotes]. “I’m the more electable candidate.” In the past few weeks alone in addition to this fiasco around AP black history he’s had to let a staffer go for sharing an outright Nazi meme, he’s put out that anti-LGBTQ pride month video that he never – I don’t believe –denounced, and every day there’s a new report of chaos within his campaign.

I once – you guys know this – I once liked DeSantis. I was like, “Oh, he seems interesting.” He’s revealing himself and shrinking the pool of potential voters for himself. It is a bad strategy. I think this is a lane actually — I think Tim Scott or Nikki Haley is going to overcome him as the number two in the race.

BEHAR: He’s overseen gerrymandering in Florida to weaken the black vote also, so his actions speak even louder than his words.

FARAH GRIFFIN: I have a theory. I’m sorry. I think Mayor Frances Suarez will primary challenge him for governor and I think he can win.
