Punk caught on video taking swing at much older man in Chicago — but victim doesn’t back down an inch, says he tried to stop suspect’s troublemaking

News & Politics

News cameras from
WBBM-TV were rolling when trouble went down on a bike path near Chicago’s Oak Street Beach Monday morning, the station said.

At least four people were kicked or punched along the path between North Avenue and Oak Street Beach around 6 a.m., WBBM noted.

Now check out these three characters — two of whom appeared to be greeting a WBBM camera operator with familiar finger gestures that can’t be shown on TV:

WBBM said the trio tried to get into the SUV of a station photographer — and then began “messing with” a Chicago Park District truck.

However, Tim Fain — a much older jogger — tried to stop them, the station said, adding that a camera operator caught the moment when one suspect took a swing at Fain’s face.

Video of the right-handed roundhouse was almost completely obscured by another individual moving along the path; it doesn’t appear clear whether the swing landed or not, but WBBM called it a punch.

Fain, however, didn’t shrink back or retreat in the aftermath. Nope, he — along with his dog — went right after the much younger suspect.

Here’s Fain breaking down to WBBM what he said happened: “I saw the guys hopping out of the truck, the park service truck. One guy, like, jumped on the back, and I grabbed him and pulled him down, and that’s when he took a swing at me.”

Arrests

It isn’t clear what happened immediately after the swing at Fain’s face or whether he and his opponent squared off again, but the station said police were seen taking three people into custody.

One of them appeared to be the guy Fain tangled with:
