Image of 4 high schoolers allegedly making Nazi salute spreads on social media; superintendent says district ‘will not tolerate such horrific behaviors’

A California school district is investigating after an image of four high school students allegedly making a Nazi salute spread on social media and attracted thousands of likes, the Sacramento Bee reported.

What are the details?

The River Delta Unified School District, which is in the Sacramento area, was made aware of the image Monday night, the Bee said.

The four students in question are from Delta High School in Yolo County, the paper added.

The Bee also said the alleged gestures were made at the school; Superintendent Kathy Wright said the image was taken at an outside location, the paper added.

Wright told the Bee the investigation began “first thing” Tuesday morning — about 16 hours after the image began circulating on social media.

Here’s the district’s statement, according to KXTV-TV:

Thank you for reaching out to gather more information about this serious and critically urgent situation. We were made aware of this unacceptable and inexcusable student behavior just yesterday evening. Shortly after learning about it, our administrative team began preparing for a thorough investigation which began first thing this morning. Because the situation is under careful investigation, we are not able to provide any additional information at this time.

We absolutely will not tolerate such horrific behaviors and actions and appropriate disciplinary actions will be assigned immediately as these behaviors are in direct opposition to the values, beliefs, and goals of our schools and the district as a whole. We wholeheartedly will only accept actions and behaviors that respect, protect and celebrate the wonderful diversity of our student population and the community and world at large.

The Bee added that Wright said few details were available due to the nature of the active investigation.

Delta High School is located in Clarksburg, which is about 10 miles south of Sacramento, the paper also said.
