83-year-old Rep. Nancy Pelosi announces 2024 reelection bid, says ‘our City needs us to advance San Francisco values’

News & Politics

Long-serving Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California has announced that she will seek yet another term in office.

“Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote,” a post on the @TeamPelosi X account reads.

Pelosi is the only woman ever to serve as Speaker of the House. From early 2003 until early 2023 she served as either House Speaker or House Minority Leader. She passed the torch to current House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) earlier this year.

Pelosi, 83, has served in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than 36 years. If she gets elected again in 2024 and completes another term, she will have been in office for just shy of four decades by the end of that term in early 2027.

“Nancy Pelosi, who will be 84 years old next year, just announced she is running for re-election. It’s insane how many super old people remain in government. Not healthy for the country and absurdly reckless,” Clay Travis opined.

Speaker Emerita Pelosi has dedicated her entire political career to delivering for the American people, and I could not be more excited to see her step back up to the plate. Let’s go!” Harrison wrote.
