Video: Man allegedly kidnaps, shoots ex-girlfriend before firing at police after high-speed chase

A Fayette County, Georgia, man allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend from a restaurant before leading police on a high-speed chase, resulting in the shooting of the woman and the man shooting at cops.

A 19-year-old woman is dead following a shooting outside a high school in Clayton County, Georgia, according to CrimeCamNow. Fayetteville Police Department stated that officers responded to a late-night call at a WingStop restaurant after receiving multiple 911 reports that a man had entered the restaurant to take his ex-girlfriend, Fox 5 reported.

The man allegedly abducted the woman, who was an employee of the restaurant, taking her at gunpoint in a red Chevrolet Camaro.

Dashcam footage showed police identify and follow a vehicle matching the description of the suspect. The driver eventually sped away from police and initiated a pursuit.

After the vehicle turned into the driveway of a local high school, an officer is shown on camera performing a PIT maneuver to spin the vehicle and block its escape.

After the vehicle was stopped, multiple gunshots appear to be heard and seen from inside the vehicle. Then at least four shots appear to have been fired from the inside of the car outward at police officers.

Bullets reportedly hit a police car multiple times while officers were still inside.

Officers began giving the suspect commands, which he allegedly ignored, resulting in different tactical measures being used by police. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department said deputies deployed an irritant into the suspect’s vehicle in order to flush him out. With multiple officers pointing rifles at the car, the suspect willingly came out of the vehicle and was apprehended.

Officers found the ex-girlfriend in the passenger seat of the vehicle with several gunshot wounds. The woman reportedly died from her injuries.

Charges were handled in separate jurisdictions, as some of the alleged crimes took place in another county following the high-speed chase.

The suspect, 20-year-old Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins, was charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault by the City of Fayetteville Police Department.

The Albany, Georgia, resident is also being investigated by the Clayton County Police Department for a potential homicide, with additional charges expected.

Fayetteville is a town of under 20,000 residents, while Clayton County encompasses a population of a bit less than 300,000.
