Israel blames Palestine Islamic Jihad for deadly Gaza hospital blast, while Hamas reportedly blames Israel

Hundreds were killed by a large explosion at a Gaza city hospital, the Hamas-run health ministry said, according to the Associated Press.

But while Hamas has blamed Israel, according to the AP, the Jewish state blamed the group Palestine Islamic Jihad.

“The entire world should know: It was barbaric terrorists in Gaza that attacked the hospital in Gaza, and not the IDF. Those who brutally murdered our children also murder their own children,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a post on X.

In a video posted on the Israeli Defense Forces’ X account, IDF spokesperson RAdm. Daniel Hagari said that intelligence indicates “Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket launch which hit the hospital in Gaza.”

The Associated Press noted that Palestine Islamic Jihad is an outfit that frequently works with Hamas.

The outlet reported that Hagari said the blast took place in the building’s parking lot.

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota tweeted, “Bombing a hospital is among the gravest of war crimes. The IDF reportedly blowing up one of the few places the injured and wounded can seek medical treatment and shelter during a war is horrific. @POTUS needs to push for an immediate ceasefire to end this slaughter.”

“The blast killing hundreds at a hospital in Gaza is deeply wrong,” Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said in a tweet. “I grieve for each person lost. There’s no excuse for the deaths of people seeking care and those who treated them. International law is clear: Innocent civilians must be protected & have access to humanitarian aid.”
