A Wisconsin family is devastated after police say the remains of their 5-year-old son were discovered in a dumpster a day after he was reported missing.

Prince McCree was last seen on Wednesday at his home in Milwaukee when his parents reported him missing at about 1 p.m.

His body was found in the dumpster about a mile south of the home on Thursday at about 9 a.m.

Police said they were investigating the death of the boy as a homicide, and they have arrested two “persons of interest,” a 27-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy.

The boy’s grandmother spoke to WISN-TV and told them that he lived with his mother and father. His father realized the boy was missing when he awoke from a nap and couldn’t find him.

Police and the parents had searched throughout the area looking for any sign of the boy. Neighbors said the parents had gone door-to-door to ask for information about their child.

State Sen. LaTonya Johnson, a neighbor of the family, told WISN that the two persons of interest also lived in the same home.

“They were distraught,” Johnson said about the family of the child.

“It was a shock. This neighborhood is relatively quiet,” she added. “You don’t see a lot of police activity. We knew it was something serious.”

She said the parents had three children in total.

Alderman Michael Murphy, who represents the neighborhood, said the incident would be traumatizing for the entire community.

“It’s a terrible tragedy for the whole community to see another child so senselessly lose their life and then to be discarded in the manner in which they found the child,” Murphy said.
