Republican’s pro-Israel sign defaced in House office building

News & Politics

A pro-Israel sign above the nameplate of Rep. Tim Walberg’s (R-Mich.) Washington, D.C., office was apparently defaced with red handprints, a photo shared on social media shows.

“We’ve seen many examples of Hamas sympathizers ripping down posters of innocent hostages. Now, right here in the House office buildings, we see more cowardly acts of vandalism targeting those standing against terrorism. This only strengthens our resolve. I #StandWithIsrael,” a post containing the photo of the vandalized pro-Israel sign reads.

“This is yet another despicable act which should not be tolerated,” Walberg stated in a press release, according to Fox News Digital. “At a time like this, we must think of our Jewish community members, including those on my staff, who are enduring this targeted behavior and harassment following the largest attack on Jews since the Holocaust.”

A tweet earlier this week showed the unmarred “I STAND WITH ISRAEL” sign hanging above the congressman’s name plate. “On October 7, 1000+ innocent Israelis were brutally murdered by Hamas. The world should be united in condemning this terror and helping deter future attacks. We must also condemn the anti-Semitism, threats, and lies that have erupted worldwide. I #StandWithIsrael,” the tweet read.

The lawmaker’s office said they had contacted U.S. Capitol Police regarding the matter, Fox News Digital reported.

Walberg was one of the 412 House lawmakers who voted in favor of passing a resolution voicing support for Israel and condemning Hamas’ war against the Jewish state. “The barbarity carried out by Hamas is unthinkable, and those defending it should be ashamed,” Walberg noted in a post on X.
